English Shepherds are intelligent, alert, responsive working dogs. They are exceptionally devoted which makes them ideal watch dogs, and have a strong desire to work in partnership with their owner, whatever the task. They may demand that unfamiliar visitor's "halt!" until you say otherwise. The English Shepherd is a happy family pet! They do not need to be working to be happy, they do love their family though and need attention. The English Shepherd is not the type to leave locked up in the backyard kennel with little human contact, sure they can live in the backyard kennel but they really desire daily attention. They make the PERFECT calm, loving family pet with children of any age. Content to lie at your feet and be a large "teddy bear". We don't know if they would be content in an apartment life, but any house with a yard we know they would be happy.

Natural low heelers, they have strong herding instincts. English Shepherd's can be headers or heelers, most tend to be heelers though. Capable of herding all types of livestock, they have a more variable approach to herding then say the Border Collie. Naturally work close to stock. Sheep that are used to being handled, as in a small farm situation, can be worked very well with most any competent English Shepherd. Additionally they will adjust the force they use on a calf compared to a cow. This is something bred into them, it's not taught. They will use the amount of force necessary to accomplish the job. They can be trusted to not bother livestock when help is not needed.

Also valued for their tracking, hunting and treeing ability. Health Issues: Usually a pretty healthy dog.

English Shepherds have succeeded at the highest levels of obedience and agility. They also make outstanding partners in search and rescue or even as therapy dogs for nursing homes and hospitals. They do not tend to stray or wander away from the home. Known for their calm good judgment. Back dew claws removed, we do not remove front dew claws, front dew claws are often used by the dog especially when they are active (whether it be digging, scratching, herding, agility and so forth).

Why are our English Shepherd's not registered with English Shepherd Clubs? Because we decided when we first started to breed them that we would stick with a longer, more established registry which is UKC, United Kennel Club.

He has very strong herding instincts. Bandit comes from good working parents. Protective of his family, he loves kids. He even loves puppies and is always careful around them. He is a content family dog that loves to be with you no matter what you are doing. Started on herding, even from the first day he was attentive to my desires and worked hard to do exactly as told. Grandsire to Bandit is a Grand Champion and currently can be found listed in the Top Ten Breed and Dog Standings at UKC.

COLOR - The four predominant color patterns are: black and tan, tricolor (black, tan, and white), black and white, and sable and white.
A sable dog may have black-tipped hairs, or may have a solid black saddle pattern, or may be "clear" -- without black pigment in the coat. Sable may appear as shades of brown from a pale honey-gold color through a deep mahogany.
White markings are typically distributed in an "Irish" pattern, with or without a white collar.
SIZE - Range:
height: 18 - 24", preference for 19 - 22";
weight: 35 - 65#, lean and fit condition
males larger than females
Sturdy balance and harmonious proportions are more critical than absolute size.
