English Cocker Spaniel - Small/Medium Purebred
|
English Cocker
Spaniel is the smallest in the gundog group yet are able to flush out and
retrieve game birds from undergrowth. A gentle, popular pet, they are energetic,
playful, eager to please nature and their unique tail wagging which includes
their entire hindquarters. English Cocker Spaniels are compact, but bigger than
American Cocker Spaniels. They do excellent in
agility, field trials, and in obedience!
British bred English Cockers are genetically programmed to be hunters first and
foremost with gentle dispositions, good manners, and stable temperaments. Extremely friendly, well behaved, just super
personalities. Our English Cocker Spaniels listen very well any age of
person can go and play with them.
Pedigree is available upon request. Tails
Docked, Back dew claws removed, we do not remove front dew claws, front dew
claws are often used by the dog especially when they are active (whether it be
digging, scratching, herding, agility and so forth).
Health Issues:
Prone to ear infections. During the summer, the
ears should be checked often. Hanging close to the ground as they do, they can
become host to ticks or burr, often the cause of deafness.

Michelle
and the Wonderful People at Triple M,
Just a quick note to let you know what a great English
Cocker Spaniel Madison is growing up to be (She is from the December 24,
2005 litter). She is very playful and loving and is always by my side.
Recently I took her to Doggy Camp to begin her training to retrieve ducks
and flush quail, which I think she will really enjoy. The trainers so far
have said that she will be a natural. Her temperment and confidence are all
strong plusses. She is probably the happiest dog on earth if her super
playful attitude is any indication. Also, she is very playful and gentle
with kids. Thanks a lot for all your help. Attached is a photo of the little
lady.
Best Regards,
Matthew |
Hey Michelle...hope this note finds you well. We're all
very happy here in Idaho. Gracie is amazing...the perfect dog that we'd
hoped for...she is so fun and funny, so loving and sometimes full of P and
V....LOVES people and other dogs...that's a plus.
Her first dog leash walk was at a local "natural" park
here in town that has a nice trail system.....well this was fine and good
as everyone who approached us coming the other way seemed to be identified
by her as some long lost loved. It was like a big "we came to love you
Gracie" party and at the site of each one she would suddenly enter into
this happy dance love fest...the problem came in the parting, such sweet
sorrow, but eventually she realized that there were certainly more long lost
loved ones a comin' and so we went from one to the next. All were expected
to stop and greet her affectionately before they could move along down the
road, and they did! <cough> I think this little spaniel might have a tad of
an ego problem.
She's got the art of submission while engaging with other
dogs down pat...unfortunetaly, a good dog pal that takes genuine interest in
you when you're so wee are pretty hard to come by. We did have the neighbors
weiner dog slip through our fence for a bit of a romp and that was rather
exciting as the weiner dog got Mark's goat by doing laps on our furniture
and his attenpt at abating this activity actually met with the tragic loss
of my glass candle stand...ouch!
Yesterday we took her to a different park....has ponds and
lots of photo shoots because of the beauty....we were stooped by a panicked
photographer that could not get this precious little 3 year old girl to
smile...could she enlist our help to use that dog as a "smile
bait"...<singing> "Here she comes to save the daaaaaaaaaayyy!" Of course
they both cried when we had to go. <waaa>
In the parking lot this young man of about 25 or so wisked
her up in his arms and started loving on her like she was his dog and the
question came, "where'd ya get 'er?" and when we said South Dakota he nearly
fell over with delight, "I'm from SOUTH DAKOTA!!!" [Simply said, I think she
have a special affection for South Dakotians].
She is naturally quite overtaken by the smell of game
meat...eye-yiy-yi! We went to show her off to Mark's folks in Eastern Oregon
last weekend and they happen to be cutting up a spike elk that they'd just
harvested.....the dog tunred into a 8lb nose with legs...it was like we
completely lost her, she was on the hunt...there was a little girl there to
squeeze the poo out of her and generally get in her way at every turn and
eventually they both wore each other out...all was well and no digestive
upsets because of the <cough> animal diet perks that day.
Anyway, we feel very blessed and thankful for her and that
she's finally ours and in our home. She's a fine dog so don't be suprised if
we have to start refering the park trail walkers of Boise to your kennel for
more of the same. You've been great to work with...will try and send a
picture a bit later.
Many blessings to you and your family! Happy Thanksgiving!
Terrie

The basic English Cocker colors are:
- Apricot (similar to cream but the highlights will have
definite reddish cast).
- Black, Chocolate and Liver
- Cream, Lemon, Golden
- Red, Orange
- Silver is a phenomenon of being a mix of breed genetics
- not a true solid color but may be patches of light to dark silver with
considerable black; it can vary from patches to spots and generally
changes as the puppy matures so it can only be said that there is a silver
inclusion to some extent.
- White
Markings are based
strongly from the Cocker Spaniel, certain color marking patterns can be found
being carried on to the cockapoo.
Parti color - any of above colors showing in patches on a white base - - ears
are usually colored. May develop spots, freckles, etc on muzzle, legs, etc to go
with patches.
Tri - any parti with tan markings
Ticking Pattern - Open marked colors may also have
"ticking" in the coat. Ticking are flecks of color in areas where the coat would
have been white.
Phantom - markings in white, silver, tan, red, or brown on a background of
black or brown ; the markings are spots over eyes, on the sides of the cheeks,
symmetrical spots on chest, under tail, inside ears and on lower legs
Roan - a white base coat with many freckles and spots (rather than patches)
